Northern Songs - Hits written by The Beatles 1962-2002

This is a chronological listing of hits written (but not necessarily recorded) by The Beatles. Anything written by one or more Beatles and debuted on record (not necessarily by them) before the group split in April 1970, is included. The main exceptions are the early Plastic Ono Band singles, which clearly belong to Lennon's solo career and not to the Beatles, and therefore are not included.

All original Beatles singles have been more-or-less constantly available since release, but from time to time are reissued or given an extra promotional push. However, they retain their original catalogue numbers. All original Beatles singles have been available on 7" since release, on CD since 1989 and cassette since 1992. During the 1980s there was a programme of 20th-anniversary reissues, many of which charted.

All songs credited as written by Lennon/McCartney unless otherwise noted.
* indicates a song not (at that time) available in a version by The Beatles themselves.
