UK Football-related Hits 1970-2002 |
You're Celtic, United
But baby I've decided
You're the best team I've ever seen
- Rod Stewart "You're In My Heart"
This is in four sections:
Clubs - records by or about specific English or
Scottish football clubs.
Players - records by, and tributes to, individual
players.
Competitions - records made to tie-in with World Cup
and European championships, including records by national squads,
TV themes, tributes, etc.
Other - a few things that didn't fit the first
three categories.
Fairly common sense as to what's included or excluded here: records about football or recorded by footballers are in; records which aren't, aren't. There are a few songs which, though not about football, have become inextricably associated with it (at least in the UK), but unless actually recorded in a football context I haven't included them, so you'll find the three tenors' version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" here but not Robson & Jerome's; and you won't find either hit version of "Abide With Me". I know what I'm doing!!!
